Our Classroom's Fish Farm

This is the perfect system to “get your class's feet wet” in the wonderful world of Fish Farming! Our classrooms fish farm consists of a single 400 gal polyethylene fish tank with large acrylic viewing window, 2 cone bottom mechanical filters to remove the solid waste and a moving bed biological filter to convert ammonia to nitrate and keep water quality pristine. The entire system contains roughly 500 gal of water and is rated to grow 100lbs of tilapia (or other species) from fingerlings to harvest. Electrical requirements are a mere 110 watts and cost about $6 a month making this extremely energy efficient!

System maintenance is simple and requires roughly 10 minutes a day to feed the fish, empty the filters and maintain water quality while only using an average of 10 gal of water a day to top the system off. This means you have more time to spend engaging with students and less time doing additional chores at the end of your day. We also offer heating and chilling options depending on your specific needs at your location.

Every system includes an installation video and a video operation manual along with many other useful resources we offer to everyone in the AED family!

*Several different configurations of this system are available depending on the layout of your classroom and the available space. The footprint can be as tight as 6’ x 8’ or we can spread things out a little more for easier access depending on the student/classroom needs. My Personal Fish Farm

Have you ever wanted to grow fish at home for family and friends? This is the system for you! We consider this the big brother to Our Classrooms Fish Farm and we have several different options depending on your end production goals and available footprint. Looking for something you don’t see listed? Email us today and we will be happy to offer a customized solution for your needs! LET’S GROW SOME FISH!!!

Option 1- Includes 2, 400 gal tanks, 2 cone bottom mechanical filters, a moving bed biofilter and sump properly sized to grow 200lbs of fish from fingerlings to harvest. The water pump and air pump require a total of 210w of electricity and the system requires roughly 10 minutes of maintenance per day. We stuck with the 400 gal tanks on this design because we can still fit them through a standard classroom door so this is great in the back yard while also still being suitable for a larger classroom installation.

System specifications:

  • 2 x 400gal poly tank with window
  • 2 x cone bottom mechanical filters
  • 1 x moving bed biofilter
  • 1 x 110w UL listed magnetic drive water pump
  • 1 x 100w UL listed ultra quiet diaphragm air pump
  • 1 x Advanced water quality testing kit

The water pump and air pump require 210w of electricity and roughly 10 minutes of maintenance per day. The tanks is 44” tall and is great for backyard installations but this is not suitable for classrooms with 30” doors.
